SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Department of Transportation is encouraging parents and caregivers to visit free car seat checking stations statewide on National Seat Check Saturday, where certified technicians will ensure children are in the correct seats, provide installation guidance, and share safety information. Officials note that nearly half of car seats are either the wrong type or improperly installed, raising the risk of injury in a crash, with 32 children under 14 killed in Illinois traffic crashes last year.
