CHICAGO — Illinois Army National Guard Spc. Adiodun Abayomi Lucas, who immigrated from Nigeria in 2011, was among 97 individuals from 36 countries who became U.S. citizens during a Sept. 15 ceremony at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Lucas enlisted in the Guard in 2024 as a petroleum supply specialist assigned to Company F, 634th Brigade Support Battalion, and qualified for expedited naturalization through military service. He now works for the Illinois Department of Military Affairs and said he joined the Guard to serve his community while fulfilling his goal of citizenship.
