Illinois Joins States In Effort To Preserve Workforce Reporting

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Human Rights has joined civil rights agencies from seven states and the District of Columbia in urging the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to preserve federal workforce demographic reporting requirements. The agencies submitted comments Aug. 24 opposing a proposal to end requirements that include the EEO 1 report. They said the data helps identify workforce disparities and possible employment discrimination. The agencies said ending the reporting could reduce transparency and place additional costs on state and local agencies and employers. They are asking the EEOC to modernize the system rather than eliminate it.
