Illinois Issues Fall Vaccine Guidance and COVID-19 Standing Order

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Public Health has released new guidance for the fall respiratory virus season and issued a standing order to make COVID-19 vaccines more accessible at pharmacies and other health care settings. The recommendations, adopted after a vote by the Illinois Immunization Advisory Committee, call for flu shots for everyone 6 months and older, RSV protection for infants, pregnant people, older adults and those at higher risk, and COVID-19 vaccinations for children, adults and pregnant people. IDPH also reaffirmed support for the CDC’s August 7, 2025 immunization schedules for routine vaccines, citing the need for clear, science-based standards amid uncertainty at the federal level.
