SPRINGFIELD – Several hunting seasons and permit opportunities are scheduled to open across Illinois in September. The early waterfowl hunting season opens Sept. 5 for select species. The third public duck and goose hunting area permit lottery will run Sept. 16 through 28. Fall turkey shotgun permits will be available over the counter beginning Sept. 21 for Illinois residents and nonresidents. The permits will be sold on a first come, first served basis until county quotas are met or the fall turkey season ends Nov. 1. Information on hunting dates, locations, regulations and permits is available through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
