Illinois House Passes Bill to Update Motorcycle Safety Training

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois House on Thursday passed House Bill 2980, sponsored by State Representative Brad Fritts (R-Dixon), which modernizes the state’s motorcycle safety training program. The legislation expands the number of potential training providers to include experienced organizations while allowing Illinois colleges and universities to continue offering courses.

Fritts noted it is also fiscally responsible.

“There is no impact to the state budget and the bill will lead to a more efficient use of grant money lending to better service for the motorcycle community in Illinois,” he said.

It also enhances safety by requiring quality assurance inspection reports to be submitted to the Illinois Department of Transportation. The bill passed with a unanimous vote of 114-0 and now heads to the Senate.
