Illinois Highlights Extreme Heat Safety Month in July

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security is encouraging residents to take precautions during July’s Extreme Heat Safety Month, following recent high temperatures across the state. Extreme heat is defined as temperatures over 90 degrees for two or more days, which can pose serious risks, especially to older adults, children, and those with health conditions. Officials urge people to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, avoid midday activity, use air conditioning or visit cooling centers, and never leave children or pets in vehicles.
