Illinois EPA Offers $766,600 for Public Building Energy Projects

SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is making $766,600 available to municipalities, counties and other local governments for energy efficiency projects at public buildings. The funding is available through the Public Buildings Energy Efficiency Program for improvements identified in an energy efficiency assessment or audit completed within the past five years. Eligible projects include building insulation, window replacements, lighting upgrades, programmable thermostats, occupancy sensors, heating and cooling system improvements, high efficiency appliances and transfer switches. Grants are capped at $200,000 per applicant. The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Energy State Energy Program. Applications will be accepted through Sept. 30, 2026, through the Illinois Grant Accountability and Transparency Act Grantee Portal.
