ALBANY — The Village of Erie Police Department began handling police calls for service in the Village of Albany starting at 12:01 a.m. Monday, according to Whiteside County Sheriff John F. Booker. The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office has provided law enforcement assistance and responded to emergency calls in Albany for the past several months while village officials worked to establish police services. Beginning Monday, Whiteside County deputies will no longer be the primary agency responding to calls in Albany, which will instead be dispatched to the Erie Police Department. Albany residents will continue to request police assistance through the Whiteside County 911 Communications Center using the same emergency and nonemergency phone numbers currently in place. Booker said the arrangement will ensure residents continue to have access to law enforcement services when needed.
