Illinois EPA Offers $18 Million for Electric Truck Replacements in DeKalb, Winnebago and LaSalle Counties

SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency announced up to $18 million in funding to help businesses and government fleets replace old diesel Class 4-8 trucks with all-electric models, with priority given to areas most impacted by emissions including DeKalb, Winnebago and LaSalle counties. The program, funded through the Volkswagen settlement, will also cover part of the cost for new charging equipment, with applications accepted on a first-come basis until funds run out. Up to 65 electric trucks could be funded, with eligibility limited to diesel engines from 1992 to 2009 that are scrapped after replacement.
