CHICAGO — Illinois corn and soybean crops are progressing well as of August 17, with nearly all corn silking and most soybeans blooming. Corn denting reached 34%, above the five-year average of 30%, and soybeans are setting pods at a higher-than-average rate. Most corn and soybeans are rated good to excellent. Topsoil and subsoil moisture are mostly adequate, though some areas are short. Farmers reported an average of 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork last week.
