ROCKFORD — Construction began today on Illinois 251 through Rockford and Loves Park, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation. The $7.6 million project covers North Second Street from Whitman Street in Rockford to Snow Avenue in Loves Park, as well as a portion of Forest Hills Road to Landstrom Road. Crews will patch, mill, and resurface the roadway, update sidewalks to meet ADA standards, and repair retaining walls. Two lanes will remain open in each direction during the work, with center lane construction taking place at night. The project is scheduled to be completed by Nov. 15.
