ROCKFORD — Road work on Illinois 251 through Rockford and Loves Park is set to begin Aug. 4, weather permitting, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation. The $7.6 million project covers North Second Street from Whitman Street in Rockford to Snow Avenue in Loves Park, with additional work on Forest Hills Road to Landstrom Road. Crews will patch, mill, and resurface the roadway, make sidewalk upgrades to meet ADA standards, and repair retaining walls. Two lanes will remain open in each direction throughout the project, with center lane work scheduled for overnight hours. Completion is expected by Nov. 15.
