IEMA-OHS Urges Winter Weather Preparedness During Awareness Week

SPRINGFIELD — As temperatures dip toward freezing, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security (IEMA-OHS) is encouraging residents to prepare for the upcoming winter season during Winter Weather Preparedness Week. Authorities emphasized the importance of taking action now, citing past winters that saw multiple snow and ice storms impacting the state. The National Weather Service has also simplified winter weather advisories, replacing wind chill warnings with extreme cold alerts. IEMA-OHS advises residents to stock up on emergency supplies like blankets, extra clothing, food, and water for vehicles and homes, as well as winterize their living spaces to prevent damage.
