SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Department of Public Health is urging residents to get vaccinated against flu, COVID 19 and RSV as respiratory illnesses typically increase during the fall and winter. IDPH Director Dr. Sameer Vohra received his annual flu and COVID 19 shots Tuesday at the Winnebago County Health Department in Rockford. State health officials said flu activity is showing signs of increasing, although overall respiratory illness levels remain low in Illinois. Vaccinations can help prevent illness and reduce its severity, and flu, COVID 19 and RSV shots can be given at the same time when recommended. IDPH also advises residents to wash their hands, avoid close contact with sick people, cover coughs and sneezes, and stay home when ill. Officials encourage residents to get vaccinated before holiday gatherings and the start of peak winter illness season.
