MOUNT MORRIS — Local and state officials gathered Tuesday for the groundbreaking of the Hill Street Neighborhood, a new disabilities housing project led by the Village of Progress in Oregon and Kreider Services in Dixon. The development will include 12 duplexes, with half designated for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, allowing residents to choose from a variety of service providers to support independent living. Executive Director of Kreider Services Jeff Stauter said they have all been waiting for this day.

“It’s an excellent first step, and one we didn’t know if we’d make it,” he said. “And it’s amazing to see it all come together, and finally get some dirt moved, and we’ll have construction commencing. And in 14 months or so, people will be living here.”
Major partners in the project include the Corporation for Supportive Housing, the Illinois Department of Human Services, the Illinois Housing Development Authority, the Ogle County Housing Authority, Sauk Valley Bank, and the Village of Mount Morris. The ceremony took place behind 308 E. Hitt St. in Mount Morris.
