KIRKLAND — A 23-year-old Gilberts man was injured early Monday when his car left the roadway on Baseline Road near Malta Road, struck a utility pole and came to rest in a cornfield, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said the man was allegedly driving west at a high speed when he failed to navigate a curve. He was taken by Kirkland EMS to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital with possible minor injuries. The driver was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
