Matthew Boyd took the loss for the Cubs.
Chicago had RBI singles from Matt Shaw and Carson Kelly while Pete Crow-Armstrong had 2 hits.
The Cubs are now 6 games back in the Central Division behind Milwaukee. The Brewers beat Arizona on Tuesday 9-8.
Game 2 of the series with the Cubs and Giants will be played Wednesday night in San Francisco.
