Giannoulias Awards Over $1 Million in Tech Grants to Underserved Libraries

SPRINGFIELD — Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias is awarding more than $1 million in technology grants to 88 public libraries across Illinois, including libraries in Ashton, Franklin Grove, Paw Paw and Shabbona. The grants, totaling either $27,500 or $12,500 depending on the population served, support libraries in areas with low tax bases to improve technology services. Libraries can use the funding to upgrade hardware, expand digital collections, increase internet access, purchase adaptive technologies and enhance accessibility. The grants address funding gaps caused by differences in property values, which heavily influence local library budgets. Libraries will have two years to use the funds.
