Gas Prices Fall Below $3 a Gallon Nationally for First Time in Four Years

CHICAGO — The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline fell below $3 this month for the first time since May 2021, hitting $2.90, according to the American Automobile Association. Crude oil prices remain near $60 a barrel, and lower demand along with cheaper winter blend gasoline have contributed to the drop. Locally, prices vary with Ogle County at $2.91, Lee County at $3.00, DeKalb County at $3.05, and the Illinois average is at $3.10.
