SPRINGFIELD — Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs has surpassed $5 billion in investment earnings from the state portfolio since taking office, while also generating more than $3 billion in earnings for local governments through the Illinois Funds investment pool. With one month remaining in Fiscal Year 2025, earnings are up more than 6% compared to the same period last year. The Treasurer’s Office, which manages around $60 billion, has improved returns by adjusting investment strategies within state guidelines, including longer-term holdings and secure local government bonds. The Illinois Funds program, used by schools, cities and counties, holds a top AAA rating from Fitch Ratings.
