Fire Destroys Kirkland Home, Firefighter Injured

KIRKLAND – A house fire in the 500 block of North Street Tuesday evening in Kirkland left two residents displaced and sent one firefighter to the hospital with a shoulder injury, authorities said. The blaze, called in around 6:30 p.m. by a resident reportedly after a gazebo caught fire and spread to a deck, quickly engulfed the back of the home. Multiple departments from MABAS Division 6, including Kirkland, Cherry Valley, Genoa-Kingston, Marengo, and DeKalb, responded to the Box Alarm call. According to Kirkland Fire Chief Chad Connell, both residents escaped without injury, and the Red Cross was contacted to assist them. The home is considered a total loss. Connell did not disclose which department the injured firefighter was from.
