CORTLAND — A 21-year-old man from Elgin allegedly fled on foot after crashing a vehicle early Friday morning at the intersection of South Pampas and East Chestnut streets in Cortland. According to DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputies, they attempted a traffic stop after the vehicle nearly struck a patrol car and observed the driver speeding, disobeying a traffic control device, and driving onto a dead-end road before hitting railroad tracks. The driver, identified as Kyle Ponce, and a passenger exited the vehicle and ran, leading deputies to pursue and detain Ponce after a second foot chase. Ponce faces multiple charges including fleeing, resisting arrest, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and operating an uninsured vehicle.
