DEKALB — A second public art project connected to America 250 DeKalb began last Friday in downtown DeKalb as crews install a lighting display in the pedestrian pass linking Van Buer Plaza and Lincoln Highway. Designed by DeKalb artist Elisa Boughner, the project features 15 brightly painted metal luminarias suspended above the walkway, with light shining through prairie inspired patterns cut into brushed aluminum. The installation will serve as a colorful sculpture during the day and create an illuminated display at night. The project is part of the community’s effort to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and follows the start of work Tuesday on a new Lincoln Highway mural at Lincoln Highway and Seventh Street. The pedestrian pass through will be closed at times during installation, which is expected to be completed this week.
