DEKALB — Community members are being encouraged to honor military veterans by helping double the number of entries in the DeKalb Memorial Day parade as part of America 250 DeKalb, with organizers setting a goal to add 25 entries to this year’s event, which would more than double the size of the parade. The parade will be held Monday, May 25 at 9 a.m. in downtown DeKalb, with lineup beginning at 8:30 a.m., and will travel west on Locust Street, north on Linden Place, and past the Ellwood House. Organizers said the effort will require participation from youth sports teams, service groups, nonprofits, businesses, and other community organizations, since local veterans groups already take part in ceremonies throughout the weekend. Entries are encouraged to show patriotism and respect for the holiday and should not include political candidates or political groups. The parade will be followed by a program on the Ellwood House lawn and free tours of the Ellwood Mansion, and those interested can sign up online with forms due by May 8.
