DeKalb Mayor Proclaims April As Sexual Assault Awareness Month

DEKALB — Mayor Cohen Barnes has proclaimed April 2026 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in the City of DeKalb, marking the 25th anniversary of national efforts to raise awareness, prevent sexual violence, and support survivors. Officials said sexual violence affects people of all backgrounds and impacts families, schools, workplaces, and the broader community. The national theme highlights progress over the past 25 years while calling for continued action to prevent violence and support survivors with trauma informed services. The proclamation also recognizes Safe Passage for 45 years of service in DeKalb County, providing crisis intervention, advocacy, education, and support for those affected by sexual assault and domestic violence. Barnes encouraged residents, organizations, and community leaders to increase awareness, support survivors, and take part in efforts to promote safety and prevention.
