DEKALB – Illinois residents can safely dispose of household hazardous waste during a one-day collection event at DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport on May 16. The event is part of a series of spring collections across seven communities, including sites in East Peoria, Griggsville, Kankakee, Morrison, Lake in the Hills, and Carbondale. Residents must pre-register for a specific time slot and can bring items such as chemical cleaners, oil-based paints, thinners, antifreeze, motor oil, gasoline, kerosene, weed killers, insecticides, pesticides, and fluorescent lamps. Explosives, propane tanks, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, agricultural chemicals, and business waste are not accepted. Long-term disposal sites are also available year-round in Rockford, Naperville, Chicago, Lake County, and Madison County.
