DeKalb Farmers Market Offers Extended Hours Tonight

ROCHELLE — The DeKalb Farmers Market will offer extended hours tonight from noon to 6 p.m. at Van Buer Plaza in downtown DeKalb, giving shoppers more time to visit vendors and food trucks. The market is one of three special extended day events planned this season, with additional dates set for July 16 and Aug. 13. Visitors will find locally grown produce, baked goods, salsa, jams, barbecue, tacos, coffee and other products from an average of 40 vendors. Marketing and Events Manager Virginia Jimenez said the longer hours help reach more customers and bring additional vendors to the market.

“We’re excited to have more time for vendors to see more customers. So anyone that can’t come during the normal hours, which are 10 to 2, we now have a couple more hours for those people who get off work a little bit later. They can come and experience it. We have an average of 40 vendors every week and we have, I would say about 80% of the vendors are there every week, but we also have the other 20% that have more of a sporadic schedule. So each time you come to the market, you might see someone new.”

The DeKalb Farmers Market is held every Thursday through Sept. 3. Regular market hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Van Buer Plaza near the intersection of Locust and Second streets.
