DeKalb County Reports Results From Distracted Driving Enforcement Campaign

DEKALB — The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office reported issuing 98 citations for distracted driving during April as part of Distracted Driving Awareness Month enforcement, along with 17 speeding citations, 10 for no insurance, four seat belt violations, one car seat violation, three for driving on a suspended or revoked license, and 12 other citations. Lt. Ryan Pettengell said distracted driving remains a serious problem in DeKalb County and one moment of inattention can change lives forever, adding high visibility enforcement reminds drivers that safe driving requires full attention and the effort will continue beyond April. The sheriff’s office worked with the Illinois State Police, local law enforcement and highway safety partners on the campaign, which was funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
