DeKalb County History Center to Unveil New Public Art Bench

SYCAMORE — The DeKalb County History Center will unveil a new public art bench Aug. 28 as part of a project celebrating the county’s agricultural heritage. The bench, titled “Sunup ’til Sundown,” features artwork by Sycamore artist Kailey Rorer and is supported in part by an Illinois Arts Council grant. Rorer will paint the interior and exterior panels with artwork based on local agriculture, landscapes and rural life. The arch style bench is made from 97% recycled materials, including retired wind turbine blades, composite lumber and aluminum. Its curved walls provide shade and shelter while serving as backrests for visitors. The free unveiling will begin at noon Aug. 28 at the History Center, 1730 N. Main St., Sycamore, following the final Garden Story Time program of the season with the Sycamore Public Library at 11:30 a.m. The event will include brief remarks, refreshments and pop up craft activities.
