SYCAMORE — The 45-year-old man who pleaded guilty in June to charges stemming from a crash that killed a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputy will be spending more than a decade in prison. Nathan Sweeney was sentenced Tuesday to 14 years in prison for aggravated DUI causing the death of Deputy Christina Musil. Sweeney had two additional DUI charges and a reckless homicide charge dismissed under a plea agreement. Musil, 35, was killed March 28, 2024, when Sweeney, driving a semi under the influence of drugs, struck her squad car parked on Illinois Route 23 south of DeKalb. Musil, a five-year sheriff’s office veteran and Army National Guard military police officer who served in Afghanistan, died at a local hospital.
