DeKalb County Community Foundation Awards $150,000 in Build the Future Grants

SYCAMORE — The DeKalb County Community Foundation has awarded $150,000 in Build the Future grants to two local organizations for capital projects. Safe Passage received $100,000 for its Building New Beginnings shelter campaign, while the DeKalb Park District received $50,000 for shelter and electrical upgrades at Welsh Park. Safe Passage Executive Director Rebecca Versluys said the new shelter will provide a safe and welcoming space for individuals and families rebuilding their lives. DeKalb Park District Executive Director Paul Zepezauer said the Welsh Park improvements will enhance community events and create opportunities for additional events in the future. The grants support construction or expansion of facilities that strengthen local organizations and services. This year’s awards mark the second year of the Community Foundation’s Build the Future grant program.
