DeKalb City and Agencies Provide Aid After Fire Displaces 16 Residents

DEKALB – Following a fire at a multi-tenant building on Greenbrier Road that displaced 16 people, the City of DeKalb is working with local agencies to support those affected. The fire, which started early Tuesday and caused about $50,000 in damage, left the building uninhabitable due to fire, smoke, and water damage. Emergency assistance included transportation to a local hotel arranged by the Family Service Agency, which is seeking grant funding to extend stays for displaced residents. The American Red Cross and DeKalb Township have provided meals and gift cards, while the Fire Department and Building Division are coordinating repairs with the property owner. Donations of money and gift cards are being accepted through the Family Service Agency to help the victims.
