DeKalb Approves Property Tax Increase and Youth Shelter Funding

DEKALB — The DeKalb City Council heard a first reading of a 2025 property tax levy increase last Monday night to fund city operations and pensions while keeping the tax rate nearly the same as last year. Combined with the library levy, the total city tax will rise moderately. The city’s property values have grown due to new construction and township adjustments. The council also approved the reallocation of federal Community Development Block Grant funds from street improvements to support the Roots to Rise Transitional Youth Shelter, which provides housing and services for local youth experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
