DEKALB — The DeKalb Fire Department responded to an apartment fire late Sunday in the 700 block of N. Annie Glidden Road. Firefighters located a fire under the oven that extended through the floor joists and into a wall space leading to the second floor. Crews opened portions of the walls and ceiling to extinguish the fire and checked the apartment and adjacent units for occupants. No one was found inside and the fire did not spread beyond the original apartment. The fire was under control within 30 minutes. The fire was determined to be accidental and damage was estimated at $25,000. Four residents were displaced and University Village management and the Red Cross assisted the occupants with relocation. No civilians or firefighters were injured.
