DCFS Opens 2026 Scholarship Applications For Youth In Care

CHICAGO — The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is accepting applications through March 31 for the 2026 DCFS Scholarship Program for current and former youth in care. The program provides tuition and academic fee waivers at public colleges, a monthly grant of $1,577, and a medical card. Four scholarships are reserved for children of veterans and two are set aside for students pursuing social work degrees. In 2025, 334 students received scholarships. Eligible applicants include youth with open or closed DCFS cases and those who aged out of care. Applications are available online through DCFS.
