ROCHELLE — A proposed data center development will return to the Rochelle City Council agenda Monday night as officials consider a resolution authorizing an agreement with Midwest Power Investors, LLC.
City staff have been working on the project since early 2025 after approving zoning changes to allow data centers in industrial districts. The site is planned north of Steward Road, west of the BNSF railroad and south of Interstate 88.
Under the agreement, the developer would fund electrical, water, sewer and roadway improvements. Phase I includes up to $4.1 million in electrical upgrades and about $2.8 million in water and sewer work, with the city constructing the electrical infrastructure and being reimbursed. The project would initially use up to 48 megawatts of power, with potential expansion requiring additional agreements.
Officials say the project could generate more than $1 million annually for Rochelle Municipal Utilities, about $400,000 in utility tax revenue and additional property tax revenue, along with infrastructure improvements.
The council is being asked to consider approval of the agreement.
