Coroner ID’s Body Pulled From Rock River In Downtown Rockford

ROCKFORD –  The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office is identifying the body pulled from the Rock River last week in downtown Rockford.  Fire officials say rescue crews were called out last Monday morning to the area behind the Rockford Public Library, near the East State Street Bridge.  They found a man attempting to rescue a person in the water near the shoreline.  Crews removed the man from the water, and a dive team recovered the victim’s body later in the day.  The victim was identified as Anthony Brooks.  The circumstances surrounding his death are under investigation.
