Cooking Fire Causes $30,000 in Damage, Displaces Six in DeKalb

DEKALB – A kitchen fire early Sunday morning at an apartment on the 1000 block of West Lincoln Highway caused $30,000 in damage and left six residents displaced, according to the DeKalb Fire Department. Crews arrived shortly after 3:30 a.m. and brought the fire under control within 15 minutes. The apartment was deemed uninhabitable due to fire, smoke, and heat damage. No injuries were reported. The fire was determined to be accidental and caused by cooking. Firefighters from multiple units assisted with extinguishing the fire, ventilation, and search operations. The department is urging residents to follow cooking safety precautions to help prevent similar incidents.
