SPRINGFIELD — Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza is reminding construction workers and labor groups that her office can help if workers on publicly funded projects are not paid the proper prevailing wage. The law sets minimum pay and benefits by county to ensure fair compensation and bidding. Mendoza said her office can investigate complaints and stop state payments to contractors found in violation. The office received 147 inquiries last year and has investigated 18 cases so far this year, with several resolved.
