Chicago Cubs fans are embracing Sammy Sosa after his return to Wrigley Field for the first time in over 20 years.
Sosa was greeted with a standing ovation during Friday’s 9-to-4 loss to the Mariners. His return comes after mending ties with the ball club and acknowledging past mistakes, including allusions to performance enhancing drugs.
Sosa was identified as a participant in baseball’s steroid scandal. The 1998 NL MVP returned to strong fan support as he tapped his heart and blew kisses to fans in the stands.
Sosa, who holds the Cubs’ single-season and career home run records, also appeared at Cubs Convention in January.
