BYRON – Byron Police Officer Tyler Hankins was recognized with the 2024 Life-Saving Award from the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police during Wednesday night’s Byron City Council meeting. DeKalb Police Chief David Byrd presented the award, which honors Hankins for performing CPR on a man who collapsed at Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home on December 14, 2024.
“We’d like to recognize Officer Hankins for his quick response and decisive action to save the man’s life. His critical life-saving actions are consistent with the highest standards of law enforcement,” Byrd said.
Hankins took over resuscitation efforts until emergency crews arrived and continued assisting as the man was transported to Swedish American Hospital.
