BYRON – The Byron City Council approved a $40,000 grant-funded proposal from Fehr Graham Wednesday night to begin identifying lead service lines in older neighborhoods using hydrovac excavation. The funds, provided by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, will support exploratory digging soon. Officials plan to maximize the number of inspections with available funding to determine if more surveying is needed. The council also authorized the mayor to sign a Water Pollution Control Loan Program application to help fund future replacement of any lead lines found.
