ROCHELLE — Burglary suspects failed to stop for Ogle County Sheriff’s deputies Friday, leading to a pursuit that ended in a crash west of Rochelle that left one person dead and two others injured. Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle occupied by individuals suspected in multiple recent burglaries and wanted on outstanding warrants, but the driver allegedly did not yield and fled, with stop sticks deployed several times between Oregon and Rochelle. The vehicle reportedly left the roadway and traveled through fields and a waterway to avoid them. Authorities said the driver, traveling eastbound on Illinois Route 38, again entered a ditch to avoid stop sticks before losing control and overturning multiple times, ejecting one occupant who was taken to Rochelle Community Hospital and later pronounced dead. Two other occupants, 34-year-old Kayla Morgan-Poff of Prophetstown, and 33-year-old Stanley Griffin of Sterling, were injured and airlifted to St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. The incident remains under investigation by the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office.
