BISHOP HILL — The Bishop Hill Creative Commons will host an evening of innovative folk music and soulful songwriting on Tuesday, April 22. The event features performances by experimental banjo artist Tall Tall Trees and singer-songwriter Walker Burroughs. The evening begins with a community potluck and social hour at 6 p.m., followed by music at 7 p.m. A donation of $20 to $30 is suggested.
Tall Tall Trees is the project of musician Mike Savino, known for his genre-blending style that mixes psychedelic rock, folk, and electronic elements. Using loop pedals, effects, and a custom banjo he calls the “Banjotron 5000,” Savino creates layered soundscapes that have earned praise from music publications and audiences alike.
Opening the show is Walker Burroughs, a piano-based singer-songwriter who gained national recognition as a finalist on American Idol in 2019. His music combines clever lyrics and heartfelt melodies, drawing inspiration from artists such as Ben Folds and Elton John. Burroughs’s songs offer a blend of humor, honesty, and emotional depth.
The performance will take place at the Bishop Hill Creative Commons, located at 309 N. Bishop Hill St. Operated by Crossroads Cultural Connections, the Commons is a local cooperative space that features art exhibits, live performances, and community gatherings.
