Bill Would Ban Illinois From Hiring Newly Hired ICE Agents As Officers In State

SPRINGFIELD –  An Illinois lawmaker is pushing a bill that would ban the hiring of newly hired ICE agents from serving as law enforcement officers in the state.  State Senator Laura Fine says ICE agents have caused violence across the country due to their lack of extensive training.  The Glenview Democrat believes allowing current ICE agents to serve as local police officers undermines the trust of law enforcement.  The bill would ban police departments in Illinois from hiring anyone who was employed by ICE between January 20th, 2025 and January 20th, 2029.
