Area Law Enforcement Increase Distracted Driving Enforcement in April

ROCHELLE –  Area law enforcement is increasing policing efforts during April for Distracted Driving Awareness Month in partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police, and local law enforcement agencies. Drivers can expect more patrols focused on texting, social media use, video viewing, and other distracted driving violations. Officials said distracted driving puts motorists at risk and officers will be watching closely for violations to encourage safer habits. State law prohibits the use of handheld electronic communication devices while driving and drivers are urged to pull over and park before using a phone. The enforcement effort is supported by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
