Alcohol Awareness Month Highlights Prevention and Support Efforts

SPRINGFIELD – April marks Alcohol Awareness Month, created in 1987 by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence to promote understanding of the risks associated with excessive alcohol use and support those impacted by alcohol-related issues. Through community events, educational campaigns, and public outreach, the month encourages informed choices, healthy lifestyles, early intervention, and support for recovery. Efforts also focus on reducing stigma surrounding addiction and promoting prevention strategies, especially among youth. Resources and information are available through Prevention First and the Alcohol Policy Resource Center.
