Unemployment Rates Rise In DeKalb, Lee And Ogle Counties

SPRINGFIELD — Unemployment rates increased in DeKalb, Lee and Ogle counties in March compared to a year ago, according to data released Thursday by the Illinois Department of Employment Security and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. DeKalb County’s unemployment rate rose to 5.2 percent in March from 4.4 percent one year earlier. Lee County increased to 5.3 percent from 4.5 percent, while Ogle County climbed to 5.7 percent from 4.8 percent. The Rockford metropolitan statistical area, which includes Ogle County, posted a 6.5 percent unemployment rate, up from 5.4 percent in March 2025. Total nonfarm employment in the Rockford area fell by 2,300 jobs over the year. In Ogle County, total nonfarm employment decreased by 625 jobs compared to March 2025. Statewide, Illinois recorded a 5.2 percent unemployment rate in March, up from 4.7 percent one year earlier, while total nonfarm employment fell by 8,400 jobs.
