Oregon Mayor Proclaims May as Motorcycle Awareness Month

OREGON — Oregon Mayor Ken Williams has proclaimed May 2026 as Motorcycle Awareness Month in the city, urging drivers and riders to share the road safely. The proclamation highlights motorcycle safety as a priority in Illinois and notes that motorcycles are a common and economical form of transportation that can reduce fuel use, road wear, and traffic congestion. It also recognizes the work of ABATE of Illinois Inc. in promoting motorcycle safety, education, and awareness through school programs and public outreach that have reached more than 120,000 participants in the past nine years. The proclamation further notes the contributions of motorcyclists to charitable causes and calls for increased awareness among all roadway users. Williams signed the proclamation on April 28, 2026, citing the group’s 39 years of service and more than 352,000 registered motorcyclists in the state.
